I teach third grade in Indiana.  I graduated summa cum laude from Ball State University in December 2004 with a minor in counseling psychology.  I’m currently completing a Master of Arts in Education in Elementary Education through Ball State.  This summer I will also obtain an All Grades Reading Specialist License.

I use a guided reading and writing approach to literacy instruction, combined with individualized word study. My philosophy:

  • Students need to understand the WHY behind the WHAT and use REAL literature daily.
  • Students learn best when they are actively involved in their learning.
  • Student ownership and accountability improves when they help set their own goals and monitor their own progress.
  • Student engagement and motivation increases when they have many opportunities to study topics of their choice.
  • Students feel most comfortable when they work cooperatively to meet common goals, learn social skills, and celebrate success together.
